A Home Water Purifier is the Safest Choice

August 4th, 2008

Public drinking water treatment systems protect us in many ways. But, if you read the news, you probably know that you need a drinking water purification system for your home, as well. There are just too many things that elude the public facilities.

In the United States, drinking water treatment systems haven’t changed much over the last hundred years. Some facilities are old and out date. Old pipes were lined with the toxic metal lead and it was used at solder joints. So, now it is seeping in and coming out of our taps.

Since this happens down stream from the drinking water purification system, there is no way that the facility can address the situation. There are cries that they should replace all of the pipes, but some of them are the homeowner’s responsibility. Do you want to go to the expense of replacing your plumbing or would you rather by an in-home drinking water purification system?

Personally, I decided a long time ago to stop relying on the drinking water treatment systems. Long before the studies came out concerning the risks of chlorine, I could not stand the taste or the smell.

They have of course improved over time, so I have updated the drinking water purification system in my home several times. Today, the one that I use has a multi-media block, which removes things that I can neither taste nor smell. And of course, it has a carbon filtration step to get rid of chlorine odor and taste. But, it also has an ion exchange unit.

When I was growing up, we had a spring. In those days, it was considered safe to drink from them without testing. Of course things are different now.

When I moved to the city, my apartment was supplied by the local drinking water treatment systems. I found the taste disgusting. Numerous filters over the years have helped, but I believe this ion exchange unit in my drinking water purification system has really made a difference.

Now, when it’s chilled, it tastes just like the spring-water that I remember from my youth. The company says that it balances the mineral content and pH levels so that it is very similar to what you would get from a spring.

Environmental groups and advocates for consumer safety want the government to instigate new regulations for drinking water treatment systems. They say that EPA standards are not tough enough.

I did a little research and learned that the standards were set based on the ludicrous idea that everyone weighs 175 pounds. So, there is no protection for smaller people or kids. So, that’s one more good reason to have a good drinking water purification system.

I doubt that the facilities will make any quick changes. A report from the Washington Post said that some of them already modify the testing so that they can “pass”. I’m sure it was a mistake. We should only put so much blame on the drinking water treatment systems that they use. Some things were caused by human error.

Safe Drinking Water Provided by Portable Water Purifier

August 4th, 2008

A portable water purifier can come in handy many times, including the aftermath of a natural disaster or while camping. There is, however something that you need to keep in mind when considering having fresh, clean drinking water and that is there is a difference between filtered water and purified water. All filtered water may not be safe for human consumption and even when using a portable water purifier the water can still hold floating contaminants that can alter the appearance and taste of the water.

No matter the reason or the amount of water required, there will be a portable water purifier to meet your needs. From small units that fit into the top of a water bottle to much larger ones, big enough to supply purified water to hundreds of people in a short period, a portable water purifier can turn some of the worst types of water into potable water for drinking and cooking. Although purified water is usually safe for drinking, unless many of the floating particles in the water have been removed, it may not taste or smell very good.

In order to be safe a purification unit is necessary, even though filtering will remove many of the smallest particulate matter, including metals and some bacteria. Even a portable water purifier can kill all the bacteria and germs living in the water to prevent them from causing disease when ingested.

On The Camping Trail Portable Units Handy

Having a portable water purifier, especially for campers, allows them to have a continuous supply of clean water while on the trail without having to carry large amounts of water with them. Before passing the dirty water through a portable water purifier to completely clean it of dirt, smell and bacteria, first run the water through portable water filters to remove any sediment.

There are different methods of purifying water, including the use of chlorine and iodine, but these chemicals often leave an unpleasant odor in the water and despite it being safe to drink, water from a chemical portable water purifier may not be acceptable to some users. Ultraviolet purifiers use the power of the sun to create heat to kill bacteria and some others use an electrical charge to kill any living things in the water. Using membrane filters small enough to capture bacteria are also popular types of portable water purifiers, but require pressure to force the water through the filter.

Water Filter Replacement Cartridges Keep Your Water Purifier at the Top of Its Game

August 4th, 2008

Buy only water filter replacement cartridges that come from the same manufacturer as your home water filtration system. It may seem annoying, but replacing your water filter cartridges, per the manufacturer’s instructions, is the only way that your system will continue to perform.

Any time you are using a filtering system, you have to be aware of the expected life of the filter. Air filters in cars need to be replaced regularly or the vehicle will not operate properly. Filters of any kind are not renewable resources. By design, they “grab hold” of a particular contaminant, removing the contaminant from whatever it is your trying to keep clean, be it air or water or your car engine.

Most filters do not destroy the contaminants, they simply store them. This is true for water filter replacement cartridges.

Water filter cartridges are the heart and soul of any purification system. Well, to be more accurate, the kidneys. Like the kidneys, the filter cartridges work to remove contaminants from water as it passes through.

The kidneys are much more efficient, providing us with decades of service. Filter replacement cartridges are a fact of life with water purification systems, as most filters will not last more than six months. This time frame is actually an estimate, since the actual time frame depends upon the make and model of the filtration system, as well as the severity of contamination. In other words, if your water is heavily contaminated, it may be necessary to buy water filter replacement cartridges more often, a lesson I learned recently.

My refrigerator is equipped with an ice machine as well as a water dispenser. These are fed by the tap water reaching the house. The fridge is equipped with water filter cartridges through which the water flows prior to use.

Recently, the ice maker went down, and we noticed that the water pressure of the dispenser was low. After replacing the motor on the ice-maker, the ice machine did work for a time, but soon broke down again. The next technician to work on the fridge took a new approach and examined the water filter cartridges.

It turns out that we needed water filter replacement cartridges. The other repairman did not check them, because it wasn’t “time” to change them. The old filter cartridges were so clogged that water could hardly pass through them. Subsequently, the ice machine was running without enough water This strained the motor, causing it to eventually fail.

Of course, our ice machine isn’t our biggest concern. But, realizing that those filter cartridges needed to be replaced more often than we thought, made us hurry to order replacement cartridges for all of the filters around the house.

We found that one company will send replacement filter cartridges directly to our home at scheduled intervals. That has made life a little easier for us and we worry a little less, since we know that our drinking water is clean and that the shower water is not contaminated.

Water filter replacement cartridges are a necessary expense, but with auto-shipment, they are not necessarily a hassle. It might be a good choice for your family.

August 4th, 2008

The recent addition to water contaminants is the pharmaceutical drugs that we take on our daily basis. Pharmaceutical chemicals are the latest addition to the numerous contaminants in the water bodies across the globe. Once the purity of water filtered with home water purification system becomes uncertain, most people start surviving on bottled water. But with so many water purification systems options available in the market, how do we figure out which purification system produces healthiest water.

With the number of pure water purifiers in the market, the key to prefer the home water purifiers India is by comparing the features from the counterparts. The number of products can be simply compared on the following requirements:
” Capability to reduce contamination
” Overall cost
” Cost per gallon
” Purification technology used
” Power efficiency
” Ability to remove toxins
” Multi stage water purification system
Following are the different types of popular home water purifier technology doing rounds in the market, including:

Reverse Osmosis Purification system
Reverse osmosis water purifiers India is widely demanded. This kind of purification systems are designed to remove the salt from the sea water along with minerals such as calcium and magnesium. The entire technique is ineffective in preventing synthetic chemicals such as herbicides and pesticides mixed in water as these are smaller than the water molecules and pass through the membrane.

Distillation
In distillation, the water is subjected to pass through the heated coil that boils the water to vaporize and become gaseous. The entire distillation process removes pathogenic bacteria and inorganic compounds such as lead, calcium, magnesium etc. but it is not effective in removing chemicals, as these chemicals has lower boiling point then water.

Carbon Filter
Water is passed through these specially treated carbon tower that removes the contaminants. There are number of filters available in the market that utilize the benefits of these carbon filters with numerous advantages.

UV radiations
The ultra violet light kills the bacteria and viruses present in the water but these are ineffective against non-living substances such as lead, asbestos, chlorine and other organic chemicals. Hence, these are used in combination with carbon block technology that removes more contaminants than other system.
